Michael A. Martinez
Michael A. Martinez has been privileged to serve as an elected Commissioner of the Jupiter Inlet District since 1988. Over the years he has had the honor of serving as Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary/ Treasurer. He served as project manager for the creation of the Jupiter Inlet Management plan and introduced the idea of the popular Jupiter Inlet webcam which features real-time weather and marine conditions at the inlet and nearshore region.
Mr. Martinez is the owner of Terra Tech Environmental Services, a family-owned pest and landscape management business that he began in 2004. He is respected by his peers and is known for his integrity and good nature.
Mr. Martinez is a longtime Palm Beach County resident. He attended Cardinal Newman High School and received an Associate Degree from Palm Beach Junior College. He studied journalism at the University of South Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. After college Mr. Martinez worked for the Palm Beach Post in the advertising department for ten years.
Although Mr. Martinez grew-up in West Palm Beach, he was born in Havana, Cuba. At age nine, Michael was part of Operation Peter Pan, a clandestine mass exodus of minor children. They were sent by frightened parents who heard rumors that the Communist party was planning to terminate parental rights and send minors to communist indoctrination camps. Michael was sent unaccompanied by airplane to a family acquaintance in Miami whom he had never met. He then traveled to Washington D.C. to live with relatives and was able to re-unite with his parents and two younger sisters in Florida a year later. The experience was unnerving yet instilled a sense of independence, determination, and an intrepid spirit for adventure.
Mr. Martinez has a life-long love of the ocean and the wild natural and scenic areas that are so abundant in Palm Beach County. Michael is an avid sportsman, taking every opportunity to engage in the outdoor adventures our area has to offer. His love of the waterways and natural areas of Palm Beach County is why he is so committed to his work as a Commissioner of the Jupiter Inlet District. Commissioner Martinez is grateful for his beautiful family, his wife Lisa and their daughter Brianna, and for all the love and support they've given him over the years.
